Increasing your profit margin
I was talking with a friend of mine (and reader of my blog) yesterday on Skype, and he asked me how he should price out his web development services to clients. He mentioned that he would probably create some tiered pricing plans, and I agreed that it’d be a good idea. (i.e. create a plan for entry level, ecommerce, and complex web development services)
However, when pricing, you need to figure out the relative income of what you are providing. If my friend creates an entry level product at $1499, that sounds like a lot of money to ask of a potential client. But if he spends 40+ hours on the project, he’d roughly make $35/hr. The only difference between my friend’s model and mine (other than I only get half) is that I make relatively $300/hr since I do about 2 hours worth of work on the project and my VA does the rest.
Don’t get me wrong, this is not a get rich quick thing. I spend the rest of the time selling and marketing and planning my business.
